James Cameron has announced that he will be doing Avatar 2, the sequel to the 2009 hit film Avatar. The movie is set to release sometimes in 2014 and Cameron will be back to direct it. The director also went on to say that the film will most likely not be called “Avatar 2“, since Jake is no longer an Avatar at the end of the first movie, but rather a Na’vi.James Cameron also stated that the style would be influenced by the master navigator culture of the small pacific civilizations of Micronesia. Avatar 2 will be staring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Joel David Moore and it is also said that Cameron will be making a third installment of the film. The casting directors are now looking for talent to play extras along with several other roles in Avatar 2.
“I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start – there are even scenes in Avatar that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” Cameron said. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan. The CG plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters – that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It’d be a waste not to use it again.” It is also said that Avatar 2 will contain more volcanoes and will take place several years after the events of the original film.
